چکیده

The purpose of this paper is to provide a scientific basic for a unified standard for the reference value of middlescent people's erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) in China. ESR measurements for healthy middlescent people were collected according to the Wintrobe method and the relationship between the reference value of middlescent people's ESR and altitude was tested in this paper It was found that the reference value of middlescent people's ESR decreases when the altitude gradually increases, and the relationship is quite significant. Univariate regression analysis was used to deduce two regression equations: Y1 = 13.14-0.00245X +/- 2.98 (males) and: Y2 = 22.00-0.00397X +/- 4.85 (females). If the altitude value of a particular area of China is known, the reference value of middlescent people's ESR can be calculated by means of these regression equations. Furthermore, depending on the altitude, China can be divided into three biogeographic districts: Qingzang District, Central District, and Eastern District.

Normal reference value of hemoglobin of middleaged women and altitude.

AIM In order to supply a scientific basis for uniting the normal reference value standard of hemoglobin of Chinese middlescent women. METHODS A research is made about the relationship between the normal reference value of 25,917 examples of hemoglobin of middlescent women and altitude in 268 areas in China, the normal reference values of hemoglobin of middlescent women are determined by the h...

Incorporating geographical factors with artificial neural networks to predict reference values of erythrocyte sedimentation rate

BACKGROUND The measurement of the Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) value is a standard procedure performed during a typical blood test. In order to formulate a unified standard of establishing reference ESR values, this paper presents a novel prediction model in which local normal ESR values and corresponding geographical factors are used to predict reference ESR values using multi-layer fe...

Aberration of Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate by Zinc Nanoparticles

Dear Editor, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) is a useful basic clinical pathology laboratory investigation. It can be helpful in diagnosis and follow-up of several diseases. At present, a new automated method with proven reliability is available for ESR test  (1). Here, the authors report on observation on a laboratory experiment to test the effect of zinc nanoparticles on ESR results. The...

Can we consider erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C-reactive protein as a severity index in pemphigus vulgaris?

Background: Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP) are 2 inflammatory indicators that increase in many pathologic and physiologic conditions. Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is an autoimmune skin disease in which autoantibodies against desmogleins cause acantholysis. In this study we have measured ESR and CRP levels in patients with PV to evaluate the relationship between an ...

Normal erythrocyte sedimentation rate in the elderly.

Two hundred subjects aged 60-89 were selected for a study aimed at defining a reference range for the erythrocyte sedimentation rate in the elderly. The study extended a previous survey in subjects aged 20-65. The results confirmed that the sedimentation rate increases with age and that women have higher values than men but suggested that over half of elderly patients with disease would have ra...
